WEDDINGS/CELEBRATIONS: VOWS

POREBA FALLS, an intimate playwriting workshop for Harvard graduates, faintly evokes a misty haven for honeymooners, but it did not inspire so much as a whiff of interest between Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller when they met there in 2001.

At the time of the workshop, held that year at a rented house in Idewild, Calif., they were involved with other people. And then there was Mr. Stoller's appearance.

"I had a beard, and she didn't like it," said Mr. Stoller, 29, whose first produced movie project, "Fun With Dick and Jane," written with Judd Apatow and starring Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni, is to open in December.

Ms. Delbanco, whose first novel, "Ask Me Anything," about the romantic travails of a struggling actress in New York, was published last year by W.W. Norton, is a charter member of the Poreba workshop, which began 10 years ago in the Berkshire Mountains home of the Poreba family. Although she and Mr. Stoller overlapped at Harvard, where he wrote for The Harvard Lampoon, they didn't meet until he joined the invitation-only workshop.

At its meeting the next year, in a house in New Lebanon, N.Y., Mr. Stoller arrived cleanshaven and unattached.

"He walked in the door, and the first thing I said was, 'I had forgotten how tall you were,"' Ms. Delbanco, 31, recalled. "We flirted all weekend."
