Miley Cyrus on stage in Portland

America's reigning teen queen

Miley Cyrus

kicked off her 43-city concert tour to a packed house at the Rose Garden on Monday night. With Portland as the first stop on her much anticipated second tour as Miley, the 2009 "Wonder World Tour," proves that "Hannah Montana" will soon be a distant memory and that Miley intends to rule.

A huge crystal-like ice dome emerged from the bottom of the stage to reveal the trapped pop princess trying to break out of her cocoon, thus her opening number, "Breakout," brought screaming tweens to their feet as she hit the stage ready to party. Wearing her trademark black boots, skimpy black shorts and tank top, she was draped in a white fur-like vest that rounded out her rock star ensemble.

Familiar songs from her "Breakout" album -- "7 Things," and "Wake Up America" -- showed what a powerhouse she can be using her voice and influence to get her message out. Huge screen videos surrounded the stage to give the crowd a close-up look and to add video images that rounded out the entertainment.

Miley and her dancers turned up the volume when she donned a harness and went airborne during her "Fly On The Wall" number. Dancers scaled imaginary walls while Miley literally flew above the crowd belting out her wish to have the inside scoop.

Concert goers were treated to a special sneak preview of her new movie, "The Last Song," which is based upon a Nicholas Sparks novel. The film, due out early next year, stars Miley and includes her original songs. The film clips were followed with Miley introducing some of those songs.

Emerging again from center stage seated at a white piano, Miley showcased her many talents and proved she really just beginning to grasp her star power.

One of the highlights of the concert was her rocking rendition of the Joan Jet classic "I Love Rock & Roll." Miley, dressed in black leather short shorts, boots and not much more, straddled a bright red Harley Davidson motorcycle and was again airborne, circling the crowd as she sang.

Rounding out the concert were a couple of new favorites; "The Hoedown Showdown" and her recent summer hit, "Party in the USA." The backup dancers were first-rate, adding hip-hop style and energy to just about every number.

The final song was really a moment to remember -- Miley's soulful and touching rendition of "The Climb," the hit song from her Hannah Montana movie.
