Arthur John, born in August 1822, married in 1851, a daughter of Sir James Langham, Bart. He entered the 51st Regiment in 1839, retiring in 1846. Barrister, Middle Temple 1850. Sir Arthur John Otway was M.P. for Stafford (1852-57), Chatham (1865-74) and Rochester (1878-85). Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs 1868-71, Chairman Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker of the Commons 1883-85. Succeeded his brother to baronetcy 1881. His only son died unmarried and the baronetcy becomes extinct. (see Appendix C for full details).
