news from Robertson Geo
Robertson Geo is a leading UK based manufacturer of borehole logging equipment for sale or rental and a provider of ground investigation services.
With over 40 years’ experience in the field of wireline logging, Robertson Geo has been continually innovative in the development of its comprehensive range of geophysical logging probes and associated equipment.
Borehole logging equipment sells to more than 160 countries, supported by offices in UK, USA and Asia with more than 25 approved agents worldwide. As an original equipment manufacturer, we can accommodate all your needs for borehole logging.
Unique in the industry, our in-house borehole logging team, Robertson Geo Services (RGS), provide ground investigation services and manage borehole logging equipment rentals worldwide. Geophysical logging equipment development benefits from RGS feedback, whose expertise is also used for commissioning and training to support our sales customers.
The Robertson Geo range of borehole logging equipment includes over 50 geophysical logging probes and 6 winches together with surface acquisition systems, software and accessories.
Our wireline logging probes are designed to reliably provide high quality calibrated data when working in the demanding environments found in borehole logging.
The winch is a key component of any wireline logging system. Our winch range includes a Mini Winch for shallow (to 175m) or portable operations through 500m, 600m and 2000m variants up to a 3000m Winch for oil and gas applications.
Surface data acquisition equipment, such as the Micrologger2, in combination with in-house Robertson Geo software allow the probes to be controlled from the surface and the data to be transmitted to a laptop and stored. All data can be QC checked in real time and replayed for integrity at the end of a log, essential for any borehole logging operation.
We also supply a full range of borehole logging equipment accessories including tripods, depth wheels and sheave wheels; everything needed for to support your ground investigation services.
Geotechnical
Borehole logging probes for geotechnical investigation can be categorised into three groups, i.e. for stratigraphic analysis, formation strength determination and hydrogeological investigation.
For geotechnical investigation the High Resolution Acoustic Televiewer (HRAT)® and High Resolution Optical Televiewer (Hi-OPTV)® are now considered essential for stratigraphic analysis by our customers. The PS Logger® probe is also routinely used in geotechnical investigation to determine Poisson’s ratio and shear strength. For hydrogeological investigation, a range of probes are available including flowmeters and resistivity loggers.
Mining & Minerals
Geophysical logging for mineral exploration commonly uses televiewers for stratigraphic analysis, fracture determination and for core orientation. A range of other probes, including high temperature and pressure versions, are available.
Renewables
Robertson Geo are proud to have contributed significantly to the development of renewable energy. Our borehole logging equipment and ground investigation services have achieved an industry leading status for geotechnical investigation on offshore wind farms (OWF) worldwide.
Water & Environmental
Borehole logging may be performed at all stages in the lifetime of water wells. Initially, probes can be used to determine location of aquifers and borehole/casing integrity. Borehole imaging probes such as the RGeo-eye® Downhole Camera are used for inspection and maintenance of established wells.
Oil & Gas
Our comprehensive GEOKEY® range of oilfield geophysical equipment is available for customers performing geophysical logging for oil and gas exploration.
All our borehole logging equipment is developed and manufactured under an ISO 9001 framework with CE Mark accreditation being applied as part of our commitment to quality.
We have an ongoing development programme, innovating and improving our borehole logging products, driven by feedback from customers and our RGS service team. Every effort is made to ensure our geophysical logging equipment can withstand the rigours of wireline logging. Our software, for acquisition and processing, such as GEOCAD® is professionally developed to ensure only the highest quality of data is presented to ground investigation services clients.
All our wireline logging products are assembled in the UK under strict quality control. Probes are rigorously tested to ensure they conform to specification, including repeat logs in our test borehole, ensuring the data is within tolerance. For every probe, a conformance certificate is issued providing traceability for client data.
All our customers are encouraged to complete a customer satisfaction survey upon completion of a sale, rental or service. We monitor the results from these surveys under an ISO system to ensure we learn from our customers.
Support for customers providing ground investigation services is vital to enable them to get the best from their borehole logging equipment. We have experienced people to provide pre and post-sales support, who can advise, not only on the borehole logging equipment itself but on the wider aspects of geophysical logging.
Commissioning and training are available worldwide at customer sites, provided by experts from our RGS team. A central technical support desk, based in the UK, is available for equipment and data queries and our YouTube channel provides instructive videos.
Every year Robertson Geo attend many exhibitions and conferences worldwide where our customers are welcome to come to meet us. Details of upcoming events are posted on our website and in our LinkedIn channel.
Our Robertson Geo Services (RGS) team provide ground investigation services worldwide and manage rentals from their pool of borehole logging equipment.
RGS use an ISO9001 framework, providing Industry leading service and safety levels with fast mobilisation response times and a rapid data turnaround. Our team has experts from many disciplines all working to an ISO competency standard to ensure clients get only the highest quality borehole data, QC verified by a qualified geophysicist.
Borehole logging equipment rentals can be organised at short notice and shipped anywhere in the world. All borehole logging equipment is fully calibrated and checked before despatch and a conformance certificate provided. Expert training can be provided at our customer’s location and data can sent to the UK for QC checking.
Robertson Geo are wholly owned by OYO Corporation with whom we have partnered regarding borehole logging equipment of mutual interest, including the PS Logger® probe. We also value our partnership with Vista Clara Inc., a US based leader in NMR technology, whose probes we use and sell.
Whenever possible we collaborate with respected industry bodies such as the British Geological Survey (BGS) and the Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) for whom we contributed to their publication “UK Specification for Ground Investigation, Third edition”.
As part of our ongoing development of borehole logging equipment, software and standards we have collaborated with many UK Universities including, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Bangor, York and Glasgow.
