First and foremost, Jerome was a diverse British writer. Acting, editing, and other such musings were secondary, but by no means frivolous or forgotten. This brilliant man captured the hearts, and tickled the funny-bones of millions of people around the world. He was a modern thinker and was considered to be very "American" in his style of writing. Jerome's simple but charming wit and sense of style is still unmatched today. Here you will find information and images related to this modern man of 100 years ago, and more will appear as I unearth it in the libraries, book stores, and antique shops.

New hope of statue as tribute to author
Sep 10, 2002, 23:48:00
Fans of one of Walsall's most famous sons, Three Men in a Boat author Jerome K Jerome, have floated the idea of erecting a bust in his memory in the town centre.
The Jerome K Jerome Society is in talks with British Waterways and Wolverhampton developers City Village over a proposal for a statue in a new square being planned next to the Town Wharf canal arm.
Society honorary secretary Tony Gray said he was hoping that the two organisations would "come on board" and that planning approval would be agreed by the council if the scheme took off.
Jerome K Jerome was born in the town 143 years ago and his best known work was published in 1889.
The author, who was made a freeman of the borough in 1927, has been the inspiration for pub names and even a clock in Saddlers Shopping Centre.
But there has never any official recognition of his significance to the borough.
The area around the Town Wharf canal basin has, since the New Art Gallery was built, become the focus of regeneration.
Piazza
Now a new square is being planned between the British Waterways Wharfinger Cottage and the Crown Lofts development of flats in a former leather works overlooking the canal.
Mr Gray, a partner at long-established firm Fraser Wood Mayo & Pinson, said the idea for the bust came up when he was advising British Waterways about developing a piazza near the canal.
He said: "The society has long been wanting to put a bust of Jerome K Jerome up in the town.
"We have floated the idea with British Waterways and they are keen. And if we can get City Village on board too then we hope it will happen.
"It seems to be absolutely right that it should be close to water."
