Tyler B I've seen the trailer for this forever dating back to my childhood when I used to watch TMNT 2 on tape. The trailer for this along with Suburban Commando was on it at the start. SC I've seen a million times and adore, this movie I've not watched fully one time. So I happened to go on You Tube the other day and there it was to watch for free so I decided what the heck and watched it. It wasn't what I expected and honestly that was for the best. I was expecting a early 90's teen revenge movie and instead I got a solid and very well acted character study which blew my mind. The movie's advertised as a quirky look into dysfunctional families with some fun moments in it. And it does that well but it also manages to be a solid look into how these people work and I feel that ultimately is what makes the movie work. The main girl's saga is honestly kinda boring once she fully runs away, but the actress from Home Alone Hillary Wolf did a very good job of selling it. She is solid in this and I hate it's her only real starring role she coulda been a solid comic actress if she stayed around. But she found her real life passion in Judo and I'm glad she did. The other kids are all solid. Jenny Lewis gives a solid performance in her best non Wizard role, and you get a very young Ben Savage in here too, he's the scene staler of the kids. He's in between Little Monsters and Boy Meets World. Adults wise you get solid performances from Griffin Dunne, David Strathairn, and Margret Whitton. The latter is especially good in what is a very comic and Goldie Hawn esque role (I'm sure they wrote it for her in mind.) You also get a solid side role from Adrienne Shelly, RIP. It's not a perfect movie and it's quite cheap in spots (filmed supposedly on just a 1 million dollar budget,) and it's plotlines don't fully 100% finalize theirselves (it happens a good 85% which is more than enough,) but this movie has a lot of heart to it and I love the risks it took. It easily coulda been a run of the mill teenage revenge film but the film makers went out of their way to make it a very deep and character driven piece which is for the best it makes the movie better and stand out more. Hope this movie finds more praise over time and gets a blu ray release, it more than deserves it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Dobs P I really like this movie. It's a fun, quirky teen movie about dysfunctional families learning to get along. The protagonist breaks the fourth wall a lot, and all the characters are well defined. It's not Shakespeare, but if you're looking for a light-hearted romp, I recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm getting kind of a late start with it, but after watching it, I enjoyed it, and thought the way things worked out is pretty realistic, and that it would definitely be relatable, not just for young women, but young men as well in the same situation. over all good movie, even if it is a bit corny. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I always liked this movie lol Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A really underrated family movie. It only grossed less than $271 thousand, but it's still an excellent movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Love this movie would like to get it.
