Geoff Brown Times (UK) It is painful to watch the documentary maverick of Roger and Me make such a botch of his actors in Canadian Bacon. Mar 17, 2021 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times A limp, ill-scripted caper. Mar 17, 2021 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom A dreadful waste of top talent. Rated: 1/5 Aug 1, 2002 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies The premise behind Canadian Bacon is so absurd that it could very well have come from the mind of Mel Brooks. Rated: 4/5 Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy It takes a promising idea and mostly surrounds it with dull characters and insipid scenarios. Lefty L so real. murikkka is trash. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review Joel H It's a shame that Canadian Bacon is John Candy's final film. He was such a comedic presence, and his talents are almost completely wasted here. This movie isn't funny, it's smug. It feels as if an angry person was trying to thinly veil their annoyance by telling everyone they're just joking. And when I found out this movie was written & directed by Michael Moore, that feeling made sense. The story is nonsensical, and the humor consists of the same three jokes repeated ad nauseum: Americans are gun-toting idiots, Canadians are overly nice idiots, and the government is a bunch of power-hungry idiots. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Michael S I love this movie. It is my favorite John Candy film. The first 2/3 of the movie is hilarious. It has a great cast including Alan Alda as President of the United States. Rip Torn plays a Great War mongering general. Rhea Perlman has that same attitude as her Cheer's character. Dan Akroyd had me in stitches as a Canadian police officer. And of course John Candy at his best. It is a funny, absurd movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/23 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 31 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review Steve D Not even remotely funny. Not for a moment. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review david f I was expecting this to be bad, since it's Michael Moore's only non-documentary and it seems like maybe it was a misstep in his otherwise illustrious cinematic career, and I did indeed want to see it mainly for its association with Moore, but I found the political satire and cynicism about starting a new Cold War just to improve a president's approval ratings to be quite funny. Plus all the humour about Canada was very spot on. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews

Synopsis In a desperate bid to revive his abysmal peacetime approval rating, the president of the United States (Alan Alda) agrees to a scheme proposed by corrupt cabinet member Stu Smiley (Kevin Pollak) and launches a top-secret propaganda campaign to vilify Canada. As U.S. citizens get caught up in a xenophobic hysteria, a group of residents of Niagara, N.Y., wielding machine guns, organize a vigilante invasion that could trigger a real war with America's gentle neighbor to the north.
