Critics Consensus

Super brief but efficient, Following represents director Christopher Nolan's burgeoning talent in tight filmmaking and hard-edge noir.

Dennis Harvey Variety Entertaining, but material doesn't develop the full, edgy potential that similar paranoid-triangle efforts realized. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Jay Carr Boston Globe Rated: 2/4 Jun 18, 2002 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle Audiences will walk out of the theater shocked to find that only 70 minutes have gone by. Rated: 3/4 Jun 25, 2001 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times For all the deadpan delivery of a committed cast, this is ultimately a misfire, but a fascinating and unusual one nonetheless. Rated: 3/5 Aug 22, 2024 Full Review Dimitris Passas PopMatters Following‘s short duration is a plus and adds to the suspense, while the plot revelations come at a measured pace, making each second of the film’s runtime count. Following is Nolan’s most underrated film and deserves wider recognition and praise. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Akhil Arora AkhilArora.com Somewhat meta in how a film writer voyeuristically finds his stories, and in some ways, you can see Nolan trying to find himself. Mason M Many consider it one of Nolan's worst, but I think it is one of his best. It may be very low budget and small but it's some of his best writing and has a genius ending. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Thomasfilms Productions R Definitely a unique movie but not for me. It also screams directorial debut Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Zach Z Great movie. Christopher Nolan debut film. So interesting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Spike G A great Nolan film thats nice and short but is a Nolan movie though and though Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Max W crazy movie. The set up kept getting trickier. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
