For me, the biggest inherent issue lies in the premise itself. A group of teens are stalked by a mysterious figure after covering up a hit-and-run accident. It's a solid and engaging setup for a slasher film. But, the inherent flaw with the inciting incident is that it makes the characters, even our main "final girl" somewhat or entirely unlikeable. For the majority of the film, we don't have anyone to root for. Our main characters have essentially committed murder, so why should I care when they meet a bloody and untimely end? Or are we kind of rooting for the hook wielding psychopath? Probably not, because the hook wielding psychopath also ends up murdering a handful of innocent bystanders in the process. All this is to say.... While flawed, I still enjoyed the movie. Synopsis A year after running over a fisherman and dumping his body in the water, four friends reconvene when Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a frightening letter telling her that their crime was seen. While pursuing who he thinks is responsible for the letter, Barry (Ryan Phillippe) is run over by a man with a meat hook. The bloodletting only increases from there, as the killer with the hook continues to stalk Julie, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.).
