Critics Consensus

Though there are more characters and plotlines, and the action sequences still dazzle, Spider-Man 3 nonetheless isn't quite as refined as the first two.

David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Spider-Man 3 is the longest film in the series so far, and perhaps it tries to pack in rather too much. But it's intelligently directed by Sam Raimi and, with all those eye-popping set pieces, it's certainly never boring. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 13, 2015 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman The breeziness that was so refreshing in the other episodes has been largely replaced by the kind of misery and moping that we can get from any old superhero. Jul 13, 2015 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Too many villains, too many pale plot strands, too many romantic misunderstandings, too many conversations, too many street crowds looking high into the air and shouting "oooh!" this way, then swiveling and shouting "aaah!" that way. Rated: 2/4 Nov 16, 2007 Full Review Joshua M. Patton CBR On a technical level, the production was never better. There were multiple cutting-edge special effects sequences and techniques used here... Rated: 6/10 May 1, 2024 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) While some of the film is a bit goofy in retrospect, it’s still a consummate vision from a director who just understood the character better than anyone else has. Thwipsniktmraw If Life gave Director Sam Raimi and his team lemons in the form of too many creative mandates from executives, then they still managed to deliver a professional-quality lemonade... even if it wasn't the drink they wanted — or were prepared — to mix. Still it's beautifully nuanced and thematically layered with some of the best action in the series! I'm as interested in the possibility of a fourth entry to the series as much as the next guy, but this is still a satisfying conclusion to a classic trilogy. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Aidan I’m gonna put some dirt in your eye Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/24 Full Review Matt In 2007, and fresh off of Spider-Man 1 and 2, I could see why this movie was disliked in comparison to those absolute classics. However, 17 years on, I have come to appreciate this movie for what it is. “Bully Maguire” has become an internet meme sensation, and instead of being cringe, it inspires real laughs now. I agree that the plot is too packed with unnecessary points that feel like they could have been their own movie, but Spider-Man 3 is still a very enjoyable film that, just like the Star Wars prequels, I think will be appreciated much more as time moves on. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review Emilio Amazing bring it back Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review Mr. Hollywood Many storylines come to an end and that whole Parker confidence thing is still out of nowhere. Not as bad as I remembered it but still the worst in the trilogy. Good to see it in theaters again. I remember seeing it opening night freshmen in college school was about to end and exams were all done and a whole bunch of us from the dorm went to see it at midnight. Remember those? New movies would premiere right at midnight on Friday, Thursday night. We lined up to get tickets then to get seats. Miss those days. Back when streaming wasnt a thing and smartphones were nonexistent as well. Anyway, a part four would have been good. Maybe Sam Raimi can get a chance to still make it before Maguire ages even more. (Seeing as his return in No Way Home was beloved by many). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review sophia best movie of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
