Ella Taylor L.A. Weekly Unfortunately, it has no people in it; only a bunch of gag dispensers. Apr 15, 2022 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times What's new about This is My Life is that it's an argument between the two points of view -- with the mother and her daughters each demanding their own rights. There is humor in this approach, and also some truth. Jhs G A wonderful funny coming of age movie about an offbeat family and about love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie is so under-rated by it 38% rating. It's funny and moving and realistic about mother-daughter relationships. A fun watch Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Frances H Some good dialogue and pleasant story, but somehow. it just doesn't quite make it to the really good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/14 Full Review Audience Member A funny and honest film about a rise to fame and true mother-daughter relationships. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A little forgettable, but I liked what I saw of it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member The stand-up comedy bits are not funny, but it's a decent drama about a mother who becomes famous and her relationship with her two daughters. (First viewing - In my mid-twenties) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews

Synopsis Divorcee Dottie Ingels (Julie Kavner) works in retail, but she really wants to make it as a comedienne. After receiving an inheritance, Dottie decides it's now or never, and moves to New York City with her children, Erica (Samantha Mathis) and Opal (Gaby Hoffmann). Before long, Dottie finds success on the stand-up circuit. Unfortunately, this leaves little time to care for her daughters. When Dottie begins to date her manager, Arnold Moss (Dan Aykroyd), it's the last straw for Erica and Opal.
