Critics Consensus
Visually stunning and thought-provoking, V For Vendetta's political pronouncements may rile some, but its story and impressive set pieces will nevertheless entertain.
Namrata Joshi Outlook A bizarre, farcical, political allegory-cum-thriller. Rated: 3/4 Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Zadie Smith Daily Telegraph (UK) In the face of this film something adolescent in me surged to the surface and I mean that as a great compliment: adolescence is a state I hold in high regard. Jan 16, 2018 Full Review Victoria Segal New Statesman By leaping into fantasy and heading for its own version of a happy ending with all guns blazing, however, it blows the competition - not to mention the Houses of Parliament - out of the water. Sep 26, 2017 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand [Alan] Moore wrote the novel as a commentary on Thatcher's England and the film retains the London setting, but it only takes a few key phrases to echo the post-9/11 era and the rhetoric of the current American administration. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage Beyond being interesting, the film is purposeful... [Full review in Spanish] Dec 21, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies There is a good message hidden somewhere under the clunky and peremptory politics, but I lost my grasp of it halfway through. William B Visually outstanding and thought provoking with brilliant acting. One of the best films I've seen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Óscar B Visually beautiful, thought provoking and alarmingly possible. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Bryan B Enjoy the oughts matrix like world but don't try to make sense of the plot. Just a good time watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Fabrícia F Absolutamente anarquista, surpreendente, ousado, visceral. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review To F La historia es buena, aunque el estilo y los personajes en ocasiones parecen aburridos. El único personaje emblemático es V, lo demás parece una mezcla de un viejo y futuristico Londres. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review JOHN B Fantastic movie. Was blown away just like I was with the matrix, another surprise at the theaters I remember seeing the matrix with little to no knowledge of what it was about and that's when it's best when you see the movies without any trailers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
