Neve Campbell bares all in this seemingly misogynistic trifle.
Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader The slapdash plot, paper-thin characters, misogynist undertones, and mechanical crosscutting are all soft-core standbys. Feb 12, 2008 Full Review Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Not in the foreseeable future, that's when, assuming your name is James Toback and you insist on making phonily provocative movies. Aug 16, 2007 Full Review Matthew Leyland BBC.com If you're looking for something hip, brisk and sexy, then this is a pretty decent proposal. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2005 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Superficial, cynical and irritating dramedy about hustling Big Apple dwellers trying to score sex or make a fast buck or live a hedonist amoral life. Rated: C+ Feb 19, 2013 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid Many viewers will be turned off by this depraved look inside the darkest corners of one filmmaker's psyche, but I found it refreshing and quite daring. Audience Member First half is quite entertaining, but then the vapid sex scenes. And then the second half goes downhill. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I am not sure why the film is reviewed so negatively by many sites, including JR, who I understand not to be always good. But why? When just by watching the cross-cut editing and listening to the hypnotic film score, you could have easily fallen in love with it. Certainly not a 'great' film in the traditional sense, but based on how well-orchestrated (and how sly) it is, When Will I Be Loved deserves more widespread recognition. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Meh. I wasn't shocked when I heard this was made in twelve days. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review don s There was no point to this movie. Neve Campbell is quite good here, which is the only positive I can give. The movie begins chaotically and never gets on track. Circumstances happen without thought put into them giving a randomness that borders on incoherence. The characters are like crepe paper, thin and wrinkly but without much substance. Actors (Karen Allen, Lori Singer) are wasted; brought in for a few minutes and trotted back out. Drivel. 1/2 star extra for the 2 gratuitous Campbell shower scenes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The slapdash plot, paper-thin characters, misogynist undertones, and mechanical crosscutting are all soft-core standbys. Synopsis Feeling ignored by her hustler boyfriend, Ford Welles (Frederick Weller), Vera Barrie (Neve Campbell) has begun numerous affairs. Ford, however, knows all about her affairs, but doesn't say anything. Believing he can capitalize on Vera's promiscuity, Ford offers her to an Italian count named Tommaso (Dominic Chianese) in exchange for $100,000. Surprisingly, Vera agrees to the deal, though, unknown to Ford, she has a scheme of her own she's eager to put into motion.
