Somerset Trojans (1967/68, 1968/69 and 1969/70) were the first club to win three successive trebles; Celtic improved on that by winning four in a row (2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20); the only other clubs to defend a domestic treble are: Seiko (1980 and 1981), Nissan (1989 and 1990), Eastern (1993 and 1994), Kedah (2007 and 2008) The New Saints (2014/15 and 2015/16), Albirex Niigata (S) (2016 and 2017) and Buriram United (2021/22 and 2022/23).

In 1952/53, Floriana also won the MPFA Shield; in 1955/56 Sliema Wanderers also won the Scicluna Cup, to claim four domestic prizes.

In 2004/05, Sun Hei won all four available prizes in Hongkong: the League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Senior Shield. In all four competitions, Happy Valley were runners-up. In both 1987/88 and 1990/91, South China won all four available prizes as well, which at the time were the League, the FA Cup, the Viceroy Cup and the Senior Shield; in 1991 they defeated Lai Sun, who finished third in the league, in all three cup finals.

In 2006, Ba won all four competitions in Fiji: League, IDC, BOG and FACT.

In 87 seasons in which both league and cup were played, 18 'doubles' were won.

Cup winning Champions Athletic Club won 5 doubles while winning the league 8 times; so they more often combined a cup win with a league title than not; this is explained by the fact that they won the cup 23 times, only six less than record winners Barcelona; in all three seasons in which they won the league but failed to win the cup, they were eliminated from the latter competition by the eventual winners (1933/34 and 1935/36 by Real Madrid, 1982/83 by Barcelona).

Stopping the Champions Two teams stopped the league champions from completing the double in the cup final on three occasions: Athletic (1932/33 and 1957/58 against Real Madrid, 1943/44 against Valencia), and Barcelona (1967/68 and 1989/90 against Real Madrid and 1970/71 against Valencia): both twice denied Real Madrid and once Valencia.

Revenge of the Runners-Up On five occasions, the league runners-up beat the champions in the cup final; this means that 5 out of 10 times that the champions lost the cup final, they succumbed to the league runners-up, implying a fierce fight between the two teams all season. It happened 1932/33 (Athletic beating Real Madrid in the cup final), 1960/61 (Atl�tico beating Real Madrid), 1967/68 (Barcelona beating Real Madrid), 1970/71 (Barcelona beating Valencia) and 2010/11 (Real Madrid beating Barcelona).

Switching Shadow When Barcelona won their first double, 1951/52, Athletic were league runners-up while Valencia lost the cup final. Next season, Barcelona won the double again, now with Valencia as league runners-up and Athletic as cup final losers.

All or Nothing The three teams that most often won the cup while finishing runners-up in the league are Barcelona, Real and Atl�tico, all on 4 occasions. As Barcelona and Real Madrid both won the cup often and finished runners-up many times, that is not surprising for them, but Atl�tico won the cup on 'only' 10 occasions while they finished runners-up 8 times. So almost half the times they won the cup, they were second in the league, while exactly half the times they were league runners-up, they consoled themselves with the cup.

Argentina 'Doubles'

No regular cup tournament has been held in Argentina though various cup like competitions existed in the past. On those tournaments, we can say that:

a) Competencia, Est�mulo, Suecia and Campeonato Nacional cups were the main cups. b) Honor, Rep�blica, Centenario cups could be computed as league cups. c) Ibarguren and Oro have not been computed because they were played with only 2 participants, so they are as supercups. d) Also, cups played with less than 90 minutes by match have not been computed (Escobar, Asistencia P�blica).

Under these premisses, the following clubs can be considered to have won league-and-cup doubles in Argentina:
