St. Petersburg

The All-Russian Pushkin Museum springs from the first Pushkin Museum established in 1879 in the Emperor Alexander�s Lyceum (formerly Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum) on the initiative of Professors and students of the Lyceum, the poet�s friends and family.

The All-Russian A. S. Pushkin Museum today is a large-scale museum complex, including the literary and monographic exposition �Alexander Pushkin. Life and Creation� and five memorial branches, such as Pushkin�s museum apartments, Pushkin�s country house museum, the Lyceum museum, the museum apartments of N. A. Nekrasov and G. R. Derzhavin museum. The buildings hosting all these museums are architectural monuments of the 18-19th cc.

The museum lives a life rich in events, such as festivals, art exhibitions (including modern art), concerts, topical seminars, conferences, study programmes for children, creative meetings with leading actors of St. Petersburg theatres, publishing and research activities, creation and promotion of new information sources, and so on.

The museum is claimed among the most valued objects of cultural heritage of Russia.
