In 1953, Mr. Bernard Jacob Pfohl (1866-1960) compiled his memories and musings into a manuscript titled The Salem Band. Although published 69 years ago, this book has remained the authority on the history of local music, including band music and it’s development.

The current volume has been published as part of the 250th celebration of Salem Band, and begins with Pfohl’s original 1953 book published in facsimile. Dr. Donna Rothrock covers the story from 1953 to the present.
