The San Lorenzo River begins in the Santa Cruz Mountains, winding its way through Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Brookdale and Felton before spilling into the Monterey Bay. Once home to a bustling logging industry, the mountains returned to their natural state, where old and second-growth redwood trees have sprung back to life.

Immerse yourself in the ancient coastal redwoods of Santa Cruz County. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park offers visitors hiking trails, such as the wheelchair/stroller accessible Redwood Loop Trail and the Fall Creek trail which features remains of old logging operations.

Witness history at the Felton Covered Bridge! This bridge is considered to be the tallest covered bridge in the United States. Spanning 80 feet, this was once the main point of entry for the town of Felton. An annual celebration of the bridge occurs during spring.

Experience everything the Santa Cruz Mountains have to offer from the comfort of a vintage steam locomotive at Roaring Camp Railroads. Travel back in time as you explore redwood forest cathedrals and old logging operations. Find the sea fossils embedded in the side of the mountain as you ride the steam train up Bear Mountain, evidence that millions of years ago this region was under the sea. Roaring Camp hosts year round events including living history displays, dinner trains and more.

Visit the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center, where visitors of all ages can participate in regular studio workshops. This gallery offers holiday boutiques where visitors can buy gifts crafted by local artists. Come spring you can stroll the second oldest farmer’s market in Santa Cruz County in downtown Felton.
