This webpage tabulates links to the urls where electronic editions and English translations of the principal Irish Annals may be obtained.
The majority of these editions and translations reside on the invaluable CELT resource website at www.ucc.ie/celt/, but the editions for AR, MB, and LG have been supplied from diverse websites.
Regarding annals, where the edition or translation is subdivided into two or more files the link-name indicates the range of years covered, and when this range falls within the Anno Domini era the limits are based upon the AD synchronisations tabulated at www.irish-annals.cs.tcd.ie, with the result that they sometimes differ from the editorial chronology cited in the editions themselves.
For example, the edition of the Annals of Ulster at the link-name AU_1201-1378_ed will be found to commence its entries from 1202, the discrepancy arising because the editions AD is advanced by one year at this point.
For a different example, the edition of the Annals of Loch C at the link-name LC_1014-1316_ed will be found to extend over the range 10141348, but the entries there for the years 13171348 belong in fact to the Annals of Connacht that have been silently interpolated into this edition.
The edition of MB has been obtained from the printed edition by D. Murphy,The Annals of Clonmacnoise (Dublin 1896, repr. Felinfach, Wales 1993), using optical character recognition (OCR), and consequently it contains a substantial number of textual errors.
In the case of FM, which has not been synchronised to the other annals, the ranges given in the link names are the AD ranges of the text itself, but users should be aware that the chronology of FM is completely unreliable over the entire first millennium, cf. Mc Carthy, The Irish Annals (Dublin, 2008), p. 299.
For LG the suffix A in the link-name refers to redaction A, or R1, and the suffixes vol_1, vol_3 and vol_4 refer to the volume numbers of R.A.S. Macalisters edition, _Lebor Gabla renn_ vols 15 (Dublin, 193856). The links cited are to digitised copies of volumes 1, 3 and 4, and, since these volumes include a parallel English translation no link is given under Translation; OCR versions of these volumes are also available at the cited links. At present no online editions of volumes 2 and 5 are known.
For the sigla and titles used see the articles Chronological synchronisation of the Irish Annals and Collation of the Irish Regnal Canon.
The directory of annals is arranged according to the taxonomy defined in The Irish Annals (Dublin, 2008), 913, namely:
Clonmacnoise group AT, CS, AR
Cuana group AU, AI, AB
Connacht group CT, LC
Regnal-canon group MB, FM
