Geneshift–A Multiplayer Top-Down Shooter With A GTA2 Vehicular Twist (original) (raw)

Geneshiftis a multiplayer top-down shooter that throws vehicles into its already chaotic combat, letting players take advantage of cars in several ways to add even more layers to its battles.
Geneshift gives players control of a mutant that can be equipped with several weapons, all drawn from the game’s twenty weapons, and then fine tune their abilities with thirty possible skills, like invisibility or bullet-deflecting shields, that they can unlock as they gain experience killing foes. They’ll be able to do this in 5v5 death matches, or also grow stronger together by playing through a four-player campaign that follows a mysterious outbreak.
Top-down combat is made further complicated with vehicles. Players can hop in a car to give themselves a big speed boost, as well as provide themselves with a means of running over their opponents. Drive-bys are also possible, letting players hose down foes, _GTA2_-style. If those plans don’t seem viable, or someone else has beaten players to the vehicles, car bombs, or just plain blowing vehicles up, also adds more viable strategies.
Geneshift offers many different stages for players to work through, but also features a level editor where players can make up their own stages, and other players can download and try these areas out for themselves as well.
Geneshift has been in development for eight years, and has finally released on Steam Early Access. A demo is available on the game’s site to try as well.
