FlightList Acquires SilkAir.com Domain (original) (raw)

FlightList is thrilled to announce the acquisition of SilkAir.com, the domain formerly associated with SilkAir (Singapore) Private Limited. This strategic move positions FlightList to better serve budget-conscious travelers in the South-East Asia market, continuing the legacy of affordable and convenient air travel in the region.

While we have acquired only the domain name and not the company previously associated with it, this acquisition presents an excellent opportunity for FlightList to expand its flight metasearch platform to budget-conscious travelers in South-East Asia.

SilkAir's Legacy

SilkAir was a regional airline based in Singapore, operating as a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines from 1992 to 2021. The airline's roots trace back to 1975 when it began as Tradewinds Charters, primarily serving leisure destinations. In 1989, it launched scheduled services as Tradewinds Airlines, and in 1992, it rebranded to SilkAir, adopting a new corporate identity.

Over the years, SilkAir expanded its network significantly, growing from a handful of Southeast Asian destinations to serving 54 cities across Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, East Asia, and Northern Australia by 2017. The airline was known for its innovation, being the first Asian carrier to offer handheld portable video-on-demand in-flight entertainment on select routes.

By the end of 2021, SilkAir had completed its integration into Singapore Airlines, concluding its 46-year journey as a distinct brand in the aviation industry. Its legacy continues through the expanded networks of Singapore Airlines and Scoot.

While SilkAir no longer operates, FlightList aims to continue its spirit of connecting travelers to destinations across South-East Asia and beyond.

FlightList's Role

FlightList aims to assist travelers in finding the best cheap flights in the region. It's important to note that FlightList itself is not an airline, but rather a modern flight search engine designed for those who crave flexibility and convenience when planning their travels.

Our platform goes beyond basic search functions, offering search features that cater to budget-conscious travelers and adventure-seekers alike. FlightList's standout features are its unique search options that aren't limited to specific dates or destinations, allowing users to discover more affordable routes and cheaper dates they might not have considered otherwise.

For travelers familiar with SilkAir and looking for similar routes and services, FlightList frequently displays Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights (which have taken over SilkAir's former routes) in search results, especially for departures from South East Asia. Our goal is to help these travelers easily find and compare flights operated by Singapore Airlines and Scoot, ensuring they can continue to enjoy the quality service and routes they were accustomed to with SilkAir.

For travelers accustomed to booking with SilkAir, FlightList offers an intuitive way to find comparable routes now operated by Singapore Airlines and Scoot. By using FlightList, travelers can efficiently search for these flights alongside other carriers, comparing prices and schedules to find the best options for their needs. This makes FlightList an ideal platform for those who previously relied on SilkAir for their travel needs in the South East Asia region and beyond.
