Highlights of Southend against Burton Albion in the Sky Bet League 1

Burton missed the chance to move seven points clear at the top of Sky Bet League 1 as they lost 3-1 at Southend.

Nigel Clough's side had the chance to respond to Wigan's weekend win with a victory of their own, but were denied by Phil Brown's men who have their own promotion aspirations.

Anthony Wordsworth put Southend ahead seven minutes in, but Stuart Beavon levelled a minute before the break.

Tyrone Barnett then restored Southend's lead in the 63rd minute before David Mooney's last-minute clincher.

Wordsworth's opener came when he moved in on a blocked Jack Payne shot.

Burton went into the break level, though, as Beavon's strike was deflected past Daniel Bentley.

But Barnett got Southend ahead again when he cracked a fine strike past Jon McLaughlin and Mooney rounded things off on the counter.

Southend are seventh on 50 points after this win, two behind Coventry who occupy the final play-off place.
