6. Answer: Colonists needed to be near water and trade routes.
7. You can only claim land on the Atlantic Coast because you represent the settlers in the original 13 colonies.

66. Mexico insisted the border was at the Nueces River.
67. Texans insisted the border was 150 miles south along the Rio Grande.
68. Once again, Americans expected Pres. Polk to promote westward expansion.
