Graduated from Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography, 1969; candidate of technical sciences degree, 1985; doctorate of technical sciences degree, 1990; engineer; was selected as cosmonaut on 01.12.1978 (NPOE-4); until his retirement in May 2007 Rector Moscow State University of Geodesy and Carthography and Institute of Aerophotogrammetry; became correspondent member of Russian Academy of Science in 2006; hobbies: Tennis, swimming.
