As we celebrate National Mentoring Month this January, Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) is calling on our entire community to strengthen the connections that help our students thrive.
A key moment this month is Connecting for Our Kids, a special event focused on the power of showing up, building trust and supporting one another.
Connecting for Our Kids
January 29, 2026 | 6–7 p.m.
Northbrook High School Auditorium
Open to all SBISD families and community members
Guest speaker Ernesto Mejia will share insights on how everyday family engagement, school connection, and mentorship can change outcomes for young people. Families, parents, and community members are all encouraged to attend.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to make a difference this month, start by joining the conversation and then consider taking the next step by becoming a mentor.
Mentoring Opportunities in SBISD
SBISD offers two impactful mentoring programs that connect caring adults with students from elementary through high school.
SpringBoard Mentoring
Serving students in grades 3–12, SpringBoard Mentoring pairs students with caring adults who provide guidance, encouragement and consistency. With just 30 to 45 minutes a week, mentors help students build confidence, set goals and see new possibilities for their future.
Research shows students with mentors are:
- More likely to improve their attitudes toward school
- More confident in their academic abilities
- Better equipped to navigate personal, school and home challenges
Collegiate Challenge
Designed for high school juniors and seniors, Collegiate Challenge mentors support students through the college and career readiness process. Mentors help with admissions applications, scholarships and financial aid, test preparation and career exploration.
In about 90 minutes a week, mentors empower students to pursue their T-2-4 goals and take confident steps toward life after graduation.
