Exciting Developments Down at the Allotments!
There have recently been a number of exciting developments at the Church Stretton allotments. Huge thanks go to Stretton Focus who helped us with matched funding.
A Second Station for Church Stretton
By the early 1900s, increased passenger traffic needed longer trains and longer platforms. It was not possible to extend the platforms of the original station because to the north the entrance to the goods yard was in the way and to the south the Sandford Avenue bridge. Consequently a second station was built to the south of the Sandford Avenue bridge and officially opened in 1914.
Footy anyone?
Football is the world’s most popular ball game in numbers of participants and spectators, and is so simple that it can be played almost anywhere, from official football playing fields (pitches) to gymnasiums, streets, school playgrounds, parks or beaches without any equipment other than a ball. In England alone, almost 12 million people play regularly, whether professionally, in the amateur game or for leisure, and an increasing number of those are women and girls.

Community Grant Scheme
Whilst making profit has never been a primary objective of the Stretton Focus Ltd Directors, prudent management of the company, over a period many years, has built up a substantial capital reserve. The decision was taken by the Board members that some of the funds could be given back to the community by way of a grant, to assist in the funding of projects designed to be of benefit to the community; and so the Stretton Focus Community Grant Scheme was introduced.
Many local projects have benefited from this Scheme and it helped Stretton Focus Limited to win a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2016.
Our Community Grant Scheme has been particularly popular in 2024 – we have reached our budget limit and so sadly shall be unable to accept any further applications until our next financial year starting in February 2025.
