Area fans of Andy Rautins may not have to go far to follow his NBA career. The former Syracuse guard was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night. Rautins and teammate Wes Johnson were both picked in the NBA Draft. Johnson was the fourth overall selection by the Minnesota Timberwolves and now joins former SU standout Jonny Flynn.

Rautins was selected 38th overall. For Rautins, his pick by the Knicks is just another remarkable step in his basketball career. The son of Leo Rautins, a former SU standout who was also an NBA draft choice, Rautins had a stellar scholastic career at Jamesville-DeWitt High School before accepting a scholarship at SU. He was slowed by a knee injury during his collegiate tenure but rehabilitated the injury and became one of the top three-point shooters in school history.

As a senior he helped the Orange to a 30-5 overall record, the NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16," and the BIG EAST Conference regular-season championship. Rautins was a second-team All-BIG EAST Conference pick as a senior.
