An Iconic Frank Lloyd Wright Theater Reopens Following a $1.1 Million Restoration Project

Katherine McLaughlin, Associate Digital Features Editor for Architectural Digest, writes about the grand reopening of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hillside Theater at Taliesin. After a five-year, $1.1 million restoration, the theater was unveiled on Wright's 157th birthday. Ryan Hewson, Taliesin’s Director of Preservation, highlighted the project's importance due to the theater's structural issues. The celebration featured a performance by Third Coast Percussion and showcased the beautifully restored theater curtain.

Located in the Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin near Spring Green, Taliesin is the name of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 37,000-square-foot home, studio, school, and 800-acre estate that includes buildings from nearly every decade of Wright’s career from the 1890s to the 1950s. In 1976, Taliesin was designated as a National Historic Landmark and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.

Taliesin West

Taliesin West is nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage site designation, a National Historic Landmark, and home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Established in 1937, Taliesin West is Wright’s desert laboratory and became his beloved winter home until his death in 1959.
