Titans duo: We won't play in Pro Bowl as alternates (original) (raw)
Jurrell Casey was selected as an alternate to the Pro Bowl, but on Wednesday the Titans defensive lineman said he wouldn't go even if other players pulled out of the all-star game.
"The way I look at it is I don't want to go as an alternate until I make my first appearance," said Casey, a fourth-year pro who has 5.5 sacks this season. "I want to hold to what I believe in and that's going out there and earning my spot as a first teamer."
Tight end Delanie Walker is also an alternate and feels the same as Casey. Walker, who has 56 catches for 847 yards and four touchdowns, said he didn't expect to be named to the Pro Bowl because the Titans are 2-13.
He said he's inclined to decline going to the Pro Bowl even if other players in front of him are unable to play.
"I don't understand why I should go," Walker said. "If you didn't vote me in the first time, why should I go as an alternate? I would rather earn it than have to go because someone else can't go."
The Pro Bowl is Jan. 25 at Glendale, Ariz., site of the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.
