Hrithik Roshan plays the lead in the just-released Agneepath. How different is his Vijay from the one played by Amitabh Bachchan in the 1990 Mukul Anand-directed flick? The actor shares his thoughts.

When you agreed to do the Agneepath remake, did you speak to Amitabh Bachchan who had played the lead in Mukul Anand's Agneepath ?

No, I didn't speak to him. There was no need. I don't know if the producers and the director had met him regarding this film.

Did you see the earlier Agneepath again?

No, I did not see it again. There was no need as the story of the present film is different. I had seen the original twice when it was released — it is imprinted on my mind.

So, did that have an impact on your performance?

The director had written a character which was different. It was refreshing because this Vijay was not Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (played by Amitabh Bachchan in the earlier film). He was a simple man. When I think of Agneepath , what comes to mind instantly is Chauhan's sense of heroism, along with his stylish walk and voice, but here the director wrote a script where he didn't want a hero. Vijay is a child first, who grows up to be a boy. The camera is not on Vijay. He doesn't have any style, he's normal. Since childhood, he has got one thing on his mind, and that's revenge.

Have you ever taken revenge in real life?

In real life, revenge is really stupid. You have to understand only one human being in the world, and that's yourself. When that happens, you know even if you react instinctively or say bad things, you will regret it later. You will feel everybody else is like you. So if someone says or does something that hurts you, you will understand that it only reflects his conditioning and experiences. You will not get angry, but instead sympathise with him.

A scene in the promo featuring Priyanka and you looks hot. Are there intimate scenes in the film too?

No. It is not meant to be hot. It is meant to be sweet.

What do you think about Priyanka's performance in Agneepath ?

Agneepath is Priyanka's best performance till date. She can really make you cry. She has a small role, but has done a fabulous job of it. Priyanka's Kaali is such a sweet character that when you see Vijay through her eyes, you are bound to fall in love with Vijay.

Katrina's item song has become very popular. Didn't you think you should have danced along with her in the song?

Even if I had wished to dance in that song before the shoot, the moment Katrina came on the sets and rehearsed, everybody would have wanted her to go on and on; nobody would have wanted me to get up and dance. Katrina is amazing — she has come from the U.K. and is doing a ‘Mungda' type of lavani which is so different and difficult. The promo showcases just a part of the song — you should watch it to gauge its full impact. I feel after Madhuri, Ash (Aishwarya), it's now Katrina — I have been impressed by these three people.

Why is the next Krrish film called Krrish 3 , instead of Krrish 2 ?

It is Krrish 3 because it's after Koi… Mil Gaya and Krrish . It is done so that people know it is a journey of three films.

How different is Krrish 3 from Krrish? Will you be seen doing more action, flying and other such superhero kind of things?

According to me, this is my father's best script to date. If there is colour, action or item songs, it is just an add-on, a decoration. The script is the most important.

How far do you want to take the Krrish series?

I can take it forward forever. Even with grey hair, I will not mind doing Krrish.
