Balotsav-2013, the 22nd annual State-level inter-school cultural fete, got off to a spectacular start with schoolchildren presenting a judicious mix of folk, classical and other Indian dance forms casting a magical spell on the audience at Kothagudem on Friday.

Nidhi Prakash, nine-year old youngest author from Bangalore, released a bunch of colourful balloons at Kothagudem Club marking the beginning of the three-day mega cultural jamboree. Kothagudem RDO D Amay Kumar presided.

As many as 5,112 children from 512 schools from all over the State took part in a wide variety of cultural as well as literary events on the inaugural day of the fete.

In his address, Mr Vijay Kumar said platforms like Balotsav help children realise their innate talents and grow into integrated personalities of nation building. He complimented the Kothagudem Club for organising the children’s cultural festival as an annual event for more than two decades in a sustained manner with remarkable tempo.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited Director (PA&W) T. Vijay Kumar, film director B. Narsing Rao, Dharmapuri MLA Koppula Eshwar, former Minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao, ASP Bhaskar Bhushan, Kothagudem Club founder member Koneru Nageswara Rao and Balotsav-2013 convener Vasireddy Ramesh Babu were among those present.

The cutouts of mythological characters put up on the premises of the club grabbed the attention of the visitors. Schoolchildren donned the role of environmental campaigners by displaying thought provoking banners and other publicity material highlighting the need for planting saplings and maintaining ecological balance.

The entire premises of the Kothagudem Club came alive with scores of schoolchildren thronging the venue along with their parents and teachers from different parts of the State to participate in the three-day festival.
