Martin Mor: The Call of the Golden Frog | The Skinny (original) (raw)

Cocoa is the new cocaine; just ask bright-eyed and bushy-bearded behemoth Martin Mor. After every show the Northern Irish comic either treats himself to or denies himself a bar of 85% cocoa chocolate.

With this in mind, Mor bounds on stage to deliver us his own brand of quick-witted banter. Never too edgy nor too offensive, but borderline, Mor's dialogue with the audience is what makes him great: both inventive and fun. The downside is that he doesn't go anywhere with it. The titular Golden Frog seems like an after-thought and appears a little tacked on at the end.

Mor doesn't really seem to care about form and structure though. And why should he? The audience don't either, as they audience guffaws through the show. He's a terrifically funny and amiable man, and this comes across at an unrelenting pace. He just made an entire room laugh (mostly at themselves), uninterrupted for an hour and it is that fact alone that ensures he'll be scoffing that chocolate tonight, tomorrow night and probably for the rest of the festival.
