Pile-up closes N-340 in Tarragona (original) (raw)

A pile-up involving three lorries has forced the clossure of the main N-340 road in Amposta (Tarragona).

Two lorries and a fire engine were involved in the accident and the work of the emergency services is being further complicated by the heavy rain falling across the southern part of Tarragona province.

The first lorry overturned, ending up off the carriageway. The second vehicle, a fire engine coming to assist it, crashed into the overturned lorry and a third lorry crashed into the overturned fire truck.

There were no serious injuries but the road had to closed while the vehicles were being cleared from the carriageway and traffic was diverted along the TV-3408.

The traffic police (DGT) are calling for drivers to exercise extreme caution in the wet conditions affecting many roads across Spain today.
