Attempting to avoid Fringe bankruptcy, Vladimir McTavish has stumbled upon the idea of placing a series of bets to fund his show. These range from prosaic greyhound racing to the more interesting “Will Megrahi still be alive in 2011?” (A profit made there). McTavish is an assured raconteur, with a finely-tuned sense of moral outrage: st one point he launches into such a passionate anti-Ryanair rant, you fear he might collapse. The show is a bit slow to get going, however, and unless you have a decent knowledge of Scottish culture, some jokes will sail over your head. Yet, I left wishing it could have lasted longer – and with the desire to blow £5 on the naming of the next Pope.
The Stand Comedy Club III & IV, 3 – 28 Aug (not 15 & 22), 7.05pm (8.05pm), £7.00 – £8.00, fpp163.
