Manchester United F.C. History

Manchester United FC was founded in the year 1878, named as Newton Health L&YR Football Club. L&YR as in Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company, which were the company for whom the team's player worked.

They played in the Football League for the very first time in the year 1892 and were relegated after two years. A group of local businessmen then took over the roles and responsibilities of the club and named it as Manchester United in the year 1902. The newly named club won the English League in the 1908 under the guidance of Ernest Mangnall. The first FA Cup trophy was won the following year. The club then moved to Old Trafford in 1910.

After the Second World War Matt Busby was appointed Manager. He reshaped the club and placed a new faith in youngsters, and this strategy eventually proved successful. United won the league in 1955–56 and 1956–57 with a team who's average age was just 21making them the youngest side ever to win the Football League and earning the nickname the “Busby Babes”.

in 1958 tragedy struck. After a game against Red Star Belgrade in teh European Cup the United team was flying back to England. After a refuel in Munich the plane crashed on take off and eight players and three members of the staff died. Matt Busby survived the plane crash and went on to build another great side that won many titles including the european cup.

A neumer of managers followed up to 1986 when Alex Ferguson was appointed. Success was not instant, the first silverware was the FA Cup in 1990 but the next twenty years the club dominated English Football.

Manchester United won the first Double in 1994. Next, it became the first English club to win a Treble while winning the FA Cup, the Premier League, and UEFA Champions League simultaneously in the 1998-1999 season and beat Palmeiras to become the club world champions. United won three consecutive league titles during the period 1999-2001.

Despite the controversial turmoil after the takeover of the Glazer family in 2005 the team continued to grow maintaining its esteemed tradition and having a huge international follower base. During 2013-2014, it was recognized as the 2nd highest-earning club in the world with an estimated revenue of £518 million. It was further named as the third most valuable football club in 2015. Since June 2015 onwards, Manchester United has become the most valuable global football brand and is said to be worth of around £1.2 billion.

Alex Ferguson retire. David Moyes, Ryan Giggs as caretaker and Louis van Gaal followed but none could replicate Ferguson's success. José Mourinho was appointed as manager in 2016 and given a three years contract.
