BPS trains counsellors
MUMBAI: The Bombay Psychiatric Society (BPS) is conducting several emergency training programmes in Mumbai and in Kutch for imparting training to general practioners, specialists and teachers as counsellors to help quake-hit victims in Gujarat. �We have already trained a large number of general practioners in Kutch for counselling the quake-hit population in their respective areas,� BPS chief Dr Harish Shetty said on Sunday. Spurned lover kills girl
HOSHANGABAD: A tribesman hacked a teenager to death in the broad daylight at Seoni Malwa village in this district of Madhya Pradesh after she spurned his love. Accused Sher Singh was a tenant of the victim identified as Neha Agnihotri (19), reports received here on Saturday said, adding she was attacked on February 15 while returning home after offering prayers at a nearby temple. She later died at a hospital. UNI

Fake currency racket busted
BANGALORE: Four persons, including three from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, have been arrested by the city police Crime Branch sleuths and counterfeit notes totaling Rs 1.6 lakh in the denomination of Rs 100 and Rs 500 seized from them. The police said on Saturday that the accused Basha (60) and Nagesh 45) both from Hosur, and a local shivaraj (35) were arrested during a raid on a hotel on February 12. UNI

Marathi actor Gopal cremated
KOLHAPUR: The mortal remains of veteran Marathi actor and renowned painter Gopal, pupularly known as Chandrakant Mandre, were consigned t flames at the panchaganga river crematorium here on Saturday. Manre had died following a heart attack. The final rites were performed by his nephew Uday Mandre. Earlier, the body was kept at his Rajarampuri residence to enable people to pay their last respects. CBI to probe death of tuskers
NEW DELHI: In what appears to be a knee-jerk reaction, the official machinery has begun rumbling in Corbett Park to investigate the spate of elephant killings during the past two months, yet questions hang ire. A week since the fifth pachyderm was shot and its tusks hacked off, conflicting reports are emanating as to whom the gore could be attributed to, the role of officials and local involvement. Meahwhile, probe into the elephant slaughter has been handed over to the CBI following a communication to this effect from Union Environment Secretary P V jayakishan. PTI

Mummy�s tooth missing
HYDERABAD: A tooth of a 4500-year-old Egyptian mummy has been found missing from the Andhra Pradesh State Archaeology Museum (APSAM) here. X-Ray studies conducted by a Kolkota-based radiologist recently revealed that the body of 4500 year-old mummy, one of the six in the country, was intact but one of its tooth was missing, P Jogi Naidu, Deputy Director APSAM said. NLFT leader revolts
AGARTALA: A top leader of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) has revolted citing serious differences with its leadership. NLFT sector commander Nayanbasi Jamatiya said in a faxed statement on Saturday that he fled the NLFT base camp recently after �serious differences� cropped up with its president D Baithang and self-styled chief of army staff Dhanu Koloi over the �killing, kidnapping and extortion of innocent people of the state�. Idols stolen from temple
NASIK: Idols of Mtoba Maharaj were stolen from a temple at Naitale village in this district on Saturday. Police sources said the priest, who entered the temple in the morning, found the door open and the idols gone. He tole the villagers about the theft, and the police was informed later. Villagers blocked the Aurangabad-Nashik road for two hours in protest against the theft. UNI
