OK. The movie sucked. Get over it. But Season 5 of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is now out on DVD and the show itself is better than ever.
It's certainly not for everybody, you have to have a deep and abiding love for the weird and absurd but Aqua Teen Hunger Force season 5 is even better than year 4. No, seriously, the series still hasn't run out of steam - it's just as vulgar, just as random, just as sophomoric as ever and I loved every minute of it.
Fans and the casual viewer will no doubt be very happy with this 2 DVD set. As with previous DVD releases the bonus features are plentiful. Wait until you see George Lowe in full Space Ghost regalia mugging his way through an amazingly awkward live, online Red Carpet broadcast for the film's premiere. I really admire the way he struggled though what must have been one of the most uncomfortable moments of his life and in the process was darn funny.
There's more - a music video, episode promos, the two-part Christmas Special (undoubtedly one of the most bizarre holiday shows ever), porn star Tera Patrick's recording session, and a crushing response to an online critic who hated the movie (glad it wasn't me). And don't miss the absolutely hilarious Space Ghost episode with guest Bob Costas that will have you rolling. Costas is so cool.
There's a lot of entertainment packed into this slim package, hours and hours of fun for around $22.00 if you order online now. For my money, this Aqua Teen DVD collection is the best of the lot.
What is it about this weird animated farce that makes it so funny? The juvenile humor aims squarely for those of us who had our sense of humor frozen in Junior High school. Apparently there are more of us that I thought!
Those who enjoy this program on cable may wonder why they should buy this package. Quite simply, the creators go all out on these DVD releases - for instance, select 'Play All' from the menu and all the episodes play at one time!
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Four sports a bizarrely designed fold-out package and the show commentaries were recorded at a party for the staff so you get to hear from people who work on every aspect of the production along with a lot of drunken chatter.
******Aqua Teen Hunger Force - Volume 3 "Check it out, y'all, check it, check it out!" What happens when two writers from Space Ghost Coast to Coast propose a completely absurd idea for a television program to a Cartoon Network with too much air time to fill? You get Aqua Teen Hunger Force, an edgy stream of consciousness series that anchors the network's massively popular Adult Swim programming block.
If you are a fan - or know of one - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 3 is available in a two-disc set that's packed with extras. That's why you buy a DVD collection of a current series, right?
Don't ask me to describe the show, it's a bizarre, surrealistic cartoon tour-de-force that spotlights all the most annoying aspects of teenage activity. As someone who lives near a college campus, Aqua Teen Hunger Force might as well be a reality show.
This is a red hot gift item, generally agreed to be the best episodes of the series so far. Look for overlayed commentaries (about as close as you're likely to get to sitting around watching the show with the creators), some funny deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes film of the show's creators at work on one of the better episodes along with a read through with cast members. The packaging is simple, but cleverly designed.
The reason these shows are so fresh - the budget is low and dependent on the talent.
Also from the Adult Swim Collection:Space Ghost Coast to Coast Volume 2 has just been unleashed and it contains a superlative roundup of funny interviews with Matt Groening, Dave Grohl, Carrot Top and other B-list celebs.
Product DescriptionFirst of all, they're not teens. Secondly, there's no water involved. That whole Hunger Force thing? That's probably misleading, too. In short, if you have to ask what Aqua Teen Hunger Force is about, it is probably not a show for you. The rest of us will go on thrilling to the adventures of Frylock, Meatwad, and Master Shake as they, you know... hang out.
