Welcome to official website of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah (PITU).

In 1954 the Utah Paiutes were wrongfully subject to the Termination Act, which terminated the Paiutes federal recognition and Federal trust responsibility.

The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah (or Tribe), received the rightful restoration of their Federal Recognition on April 3, 1980, by an act of Congress (25 U.S.C. § 761). The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah Restoration Act restored the federal trust relationship to the Tribe and established the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah as the federally recognized Tribe comprising five constituent bands (Cedar, Indian Peaks, Kanosh, Koosharem, and Shivwits).

Today, the PITU has reservation land located throughout southwest Utah in Iron, Millard, Sevier, and Washington counties. As of December 31, 2021, the total number of tribal members among the five constituent bands was 920.
