Ulreung Volcano is located on an island about 100 km off the east coast of South Korea. A large explosive eruption over 9000 years ago deposited ash as far away as Honshu in Japan. Seonginbong Peak is the summit.

The island has an area of 73.15 sqkm with about 10,000 inhabitants. The island has been known as Ulleungdo, Ulreungdo, and Dagelet.
