	You are invited to a Candlemas service 2nd February 2pm at St John's Church Washingborough January can be a bit of a dull and difficult month, especially at the moment with this cold weather, so here is an invitation to all who wish to attend to hopefully bring you some cheer and something to look forward to.
This year, on Sunday February 2nd, at 2pm, St John's will be holding a special Candlemas service in the church. The service will be welcoming, fun, family orientated, and faith inspired. We are pleased to announce that the Rev Jackie Calow will be conducting the service.Candlemas celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord Jesus, and occurs forty days after we celebrate His birth. Lighted candles are a feature of this service as historically new church candles were blessed and candlelit services held. The date also marks the purification of Mary after the birth, and this ritual for mothers involved bathing and renewal. So you can see this ties in well with our celebration of Christian baptism. If you have a baptism candle of your own or for your child please bring it with you, other candles will be available.Light refreshments will be available after the service.
