Whitsunday Airport (Shute Harbour) and Whitsunday Aviation Village Estate (WAVE) is privately owned by the Armstrong family. The Armstrong’s are well known at Whitsunday Aviation Village Estate (WAVE), owning a stunning Hangar Home which was completed in 2013. The family own two helicopters, a Bell 407 and a Robinson 66. Whitsunday Airport (Shute Harbour) is Airlie Beach’s local airport and incorporates a 1,410 metre asphalt runway with dual taxiway with full services of Avgas and Jet A1, as well as ample parking for visiting aircraft.

Airport and Visiting Aircraft

As Whitsunday Airport (Shute Harbour) can be busy with commercial operations, pilots of visiting aircraft are requested to obtain information on the current status and conditions prior to leaving the previous point of departure.
The airport is located in a small valley and has a curved approach and departure from each runway with winds being gusty at times. Aircraft parking instructions will be given to visiting pilots when they call to advise their arrival. Please ensure you have a Tie Down Kit. If you have not been met by airport staff at your aircraft after landing, please call 07 4946 9180 and we will escort you to the main terminal. Please note that all passengers must be escorted by the pilot in command to or from your aircraft.
For the benefit of our neighbours we attempt to restrict early morning take-offs, and if these are necessary please discuss with Airport Management.
