Cartter's service as U.S. ambassador to Bolivia, 1861-1862; Civil War letters or David Kellogg Carter Jr., second lieutenant in the 2nd Ohio Cavalry, U.S. Army, relating to the impact of the war in Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri and to difficulties with Native Americans in the West; correspondence concerning his illness and death from typhoid in 1862; and letters of William H.
