Papers relating to Lotte Lenya and Bertha Case, 1956-1982 | WorldCat.org (original) (raw)

Summary:The correspondence consists mainly of letters, postcards, and notes (many undated) from Lenya to Dolores Sutton or Bertha Case. The messages typically give reports on Lenya's trips or (in the case of the--sometimes very brief and informal--notes) served as friendly and/or polite gestures and a means of keeping in touch with a neighbor. There are also single items of correspondence from Elisabeth Hauptmann to Dolores Sutton, from the same to Bertha Case, from Richard Grayson to Bertha Case, and from Bertha Case to Mr. Harvey Richmond. The materials on the Kurt Weill-Lotte Lenya exhibit include an invitation and a copy of the exhibit publication. The programs and invitations are for the production of Brecht on Brecht at the Theatre de Lys in 1962, for the preview of an exhibit of Russell Detwiler's paintings at the Roko Gallery in 1965, and for a memorial concert for Lenya on the first anniversary of her birthday following her death. Finally, there are photographic portraits of Lenya, Elisabeth Hauptmann, Helene Weigel, Viveca Lindfors, George Tabori, Bertha Case, and (perhaps) Stephan Brecht as a child
