Summary:Dana had been asked to assist in the prosecution of Jefferson Davis by his old friend Attorney General Evarts. Dana writes: "I am glad your attention is turned to the fees in the Jefferson Davis case. As I have just taken a house in Boston, and shall have some outlays and greater rent, I wish to get my fees in that case if you think I am entitled to more than those received, and if so, what sum you think it would be proper for me to charge." He encloses a memorandum in which he has outlined his work on the Davis case, showing several trips made between Washington and Richmond
