Summary:The Kernan collection consists of the papers of Julie Kernan, author, editor and translator, and of her brother, the journalist Thomas Kernan. Included are correspondence to and from the Kernans; subject files about the various organizations and businesses that the Kernans were involved with; manuscripts and published works by Julie and Thomas Kernan; a large collection of materials relating to the Kernan family genealogy; photographs of family and friends; and newsclippings about Thomas Kernan, miscellaneous prominent figures, and World War II and the internment of Americans. In addition to extensive correspondence from the French philosopher, Jacques Maritain (much of it used in the book, 'Our friend Jacques Maritain'), there are letters from André Maurois, Emmet Lavery and Henri Ghéon
