Summary:The bulk of the papers relate to American silversmiths of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries. This material was probably collected while Mr. Quimby was researching his book American Silver at Winterthur, although he also gathered information about silver owned by other museums. He collected biographical information on the silversmiths as well as information about their marks and the items which they made. Some photographs are included in the silversmith files, while other photos and slides are filed separately.
