Philadelphia Orthopaedic Hospital Neuralgia 4 : autograph manuscript | WorldCat.org (original) (raw)

Summary:Volume serves as a casebook for the hospital, containing about 375 cases attended by various physicians, but those attended by William Osler and S.W. Mitchell were listed on the original inside front cover. Several hands recorded the notes on patients of both sexes and all ages, but case histories generally include the patient's age, marital status, family history, occupation, physique, past notable or relevant medical history, a description of the ailment and its progression, along with treatments and their effectiveness. Among the treatments attempted, electricity was the most common, others included massage, aspirin, and bathing with hot and cold water. Twenty-one loose leaves have been laid-, tipped-, or pasted-in, including illustrations of paths of pain in limbs, background medical histories, and a photocopy of a hospital staff photograph
