Summary:Consists of the papers of John Ford. Most of the correspondence covers the 1930's through the 1960's. It is chiefly to or from Ford and concerns both his personal and professional lives. The scripts and production materials include items from his early silent movies, television programs and virtually all of his films since 1940. There are scripts, cast and staff lists, production reports, shooting schedules, background materials, budgets, statements of accounting, and publicity. In addition to studio contracts, the legal files contain materials concerning individual films, non-film matters, and the formation and operation of production companies. There are photographs of Ford, his family and friends, and many relating to his association with the military. Also present are stills from over forty-five of Ford's films, including several silents, and some non-Ford films. The tape recordings are of interviews with Ford, his family, friends, and associates all conducted by his grandson Dan Ford for the biography of his grandfather, Pappy. Two Academy Awards for best director and the D.W. Griffith award for 1954 complete the collection
