Summary:This three item collection consists of two letters written to General James Taylor and one letter to Elisha Winters. All of the documents were written by Richard M. Johnson. The first letter to Taylor, dated July 25, 1816, concerns Johnson's upcoming election. He was unable to meet his constituents in Newport, Kentucky, and is requesting Taylor's assistance in talking to the people for him. Johnson also states his position on the Compensation Bill, so Taylor can have informed discussions with the voters. The second letter, dated March 15, 1830, was written to Winters. This document concerns Johnson's meeting with the President and Secretary of War. The pupose of the meeting was to have an Army Corps of Engineers officer come help Winter's railroad company. The last letter, dated Dec. 29, 1838, was to Taylor, informing him that his papers had been presented to a committee of the House of Representatives
