Summary:Collection consists of correspondence, literary manuscripts, notebooks, commonplace book, lecture and reading notes, financial papers, and property drawings. The papers relate chiefly to Sargent's writing, both poetry and prose, his teaching at Harvard University, his membership in the Tavern Club, his conversion to Catholicism, his involvement in Catholic societies, notably the St. Clement Society. Letters received include those from Jacques Maritain. Sargent served as a trustee of the Boston Athenaeum, founded Commonweal (a Catholic literary magazine), served as President of the American Catholic Historical Society and the American Catholic Poetry Society
