Abstract:The collection consists of Ado Hunnius's papers during his time in the United States. It includes diaries, sketches, autobiographical sketches, & other materials from his service in the Civil War; materials copied from The war of the rebellion & other sources after the fact regarding the Civil War, including letters, reports, documents, histories, & information on the 54th New York Infantry Regiment; notes & articles copied from Harper's magazine regarding Native Americans; poetry; diaries, sketches, journals, tables of equivalents, & other materials from Hunnius's surveying work and from the 1867 Hancock campaign & 1874 Adobe Walls fight involving the Plains Indians; and Hunnius's certificate, copies of articles, & other materials related to his authority to act as an agent for a Leipzig museum. Included are records of the Hunnius family of Leavenworth, Kan.; poetry of Hunnius & his children; stories; essays; and some clippings
